Here is an easy idea that your kids will love!  A Slumber Party.  I know sleeping on the floor in the basement has its downfalls, a sore back to name one, but your kids will love it!
what you will need:
sleeping bags or blankets
snack, salty and sweet
movie
board games
stories
flashlights
Kids of all ages love this idea.  Throw down a sleeping bag for each person and tons of pillows, or just throw down blankets if you don’t have the sleeping bags.  Pick a movie ahead of time so you don’t have to go searching for one the night of.   Have a sweet treat, and a salty treat ready to please all taste buds, I would suggest popcorn and maybe a trail mix, yum!
Have some stories prepared to share with your kids, or make them up as you go.  Break out the board games.  I would suggest making the slumber party  an electronic device free zone, which will help the kids fully engage in the party.  Turn off the phone ringer to minimize distractions.  Let loose and have fun!  Your kids are only little for such a short asmount of time, enjoy it!

FREEZER POPS
How about a cold treat to add some fun to your day?  These are so easy to make and you may have everything you need in your kitchen.
ice cube tray
toothpicks/popsicle sticks/sturdy straws
juice/koolaid
So really all you need to do is prepare some juice or koolaid of any kind and pour it in your ice cube tray.  Put it in the freezer for about 30 minutes or until it starts to freeze.  Take it back out and stick in the popsicle sticks/straw/a couple toothpicks.  Once these are in place, put the tray back in the freezer until fully frozen.  Then all you have to do is simply pop them out and enjoy!

Make a Tent today
One great, free, thing to do with your kids is to make a tent, inside or out.  You do not need anything special really….
Blankets or sheets
Chairs or stiff pillows (for walls)
A cleared area
Clothes pins, if you have them
Take some table chairs and put all the backs towards each other to form a large opening in the middle.
Take one or two large blankets and drape them over the chairs.  You can use the clothes pins to hold the blankets all together (depending on the size of your tent) Now your tent is done!
We always crawl in and personalize the space with some stuffed animals and other do dads. Get out the flash lights, shut the shades, turn out the lights and have a camp out.

*Play Dough*
Did you ever make play dough as a kid?  I did and it was something I always loved.  The squishy feeling of the warm play dough after it was just made.  Choosing your own color, and then creating until the day was over.  What a fun memory!  My kids and I often make play dough at home.  It stores best in an air tight container kept in the refrigerator.  The recipe below is for a wonderful play dough that my family has used for years.  The play dough stays very soft, so you can easily squeeze it through all those crazy fun contraptions!  Enjoy!
Play dough
2 1/2 C flour
1/2 C Salt
1tbs Alum
2 C. boiling water
3 tbs vegetable oil
food coloring
Start by mixing all of the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.  Next boil your water and add to it the oil.  Once the water boils you can carefully add it to the bowl of dry ingredients.  Mix  until all of the ingredients are moist.  Once moist pour it all out on the table and start kneading it like bread dough.  Once it is all kneaded and cooled a bit you can let each child choose a color for their play dough.  Put three or four drops of liquid food coloring onto the playdough and knead until all of the color is even. Next build, squish, and create until the day is done.  When you are all finished playing just place the play dough in an air tight container like a ziplock baggie or a rubbermaid type container.
